natural remedy to a dry scalp

December 3, 2009

Winter’s here…I know, yuck! Every winter season my hair and scalp always get dry, so I headed to my local natural beauty shop to remedy my problem. Here’s what I learned:

Try a shampoo and/or conditioner with Tea Tree Oil in the ingredients

Tea Tree Oil for hair productsTea Tree? What’s that? Its an essential oil obtained by steam distillation of leaves of a Melaleuca alterifolia, a plant native to Austraila.

So why should I use it in my hair? Tea Tree Oil has a healing and soothing property that helps skin cuts, burns and infections.

Ok so really why should I put this in my hair? Tea Tree Oil contains consituents called terpenoids, which have been found to have antiseptic and antifungal activity. If you are someone who is struggling with a dry, itchy scalp, Tea Tree Oil is a natural product that can help to eliminate your scalp problem. Tea Tree Oil can significantly reduce the symptoms of dandruff, leaving you flake free and confident!

I picked up a shampoo with Tea Tree included, called Giovanni. Here’s a link to their website: I have only used the product once, but I’m hoping it will help my scalp without all the harmful and stripping chemicals found in everyday dandruff products.

I will keep you informed on my opinion of the product!

Have you used any dry scalp or dandruff products?? What did you think of them???

{product review} Bumble & Bumble Super Rich Conditioner

October 1, 2009

I have really dry, brittle hair. It always used to split and break at the ends, but I never wanted to give up heat styling.

Thankfully I discovered Bumble & Bumble Super Rich conditioner from my big sis!

I rub about a quarter size amount through my medium length hair. Make sure to really rub it into the ends well. Then I run a wide-tooth comb through my hair to make sure the conditioner is applied evenly and coats every strand of hair.

If you have dry or color-treated hair I suggest you let the conditioner do its thing for at least 5 minutes while you scrub up and finish your shower.

{product review} Wen Cleansing Conditioner

Wen Sweet Almond Mint Cleansing Conditioner

Wen Sweet Almond Mint Cleansing Conditioner

So, I tend to be an easy sell for infomercials. They just make every product seem like something I need/have to own. I’ve found some amazing products that I can’t live without, like Bare Minerals and ProActive.

I have dry hair that I am always searching for a remedy to. About a year ago at 2 a.m., I thought I had found my answer–WEN Sweet Almond Mint Cleansing Conditioner. Unfortunately, this time I was a victim of convincing sales techniques and got a $40 stab to my bank account.

I liked it at first. After about two weeks of using Wen every time I showered, I was unimpressed. The more I used it the greaser my hair felt. I would take a shower and then my hair felt like I needed to take another shower. All my natural volume was lost and it made my hair feel really greasy.

The silver lining of this story is I still keep it in my shower because it makes an amazing leave-in-conditioner that I put on the ends of all my layers. So, if you are looking for a leave-in-conditioner this is a great product.
